Regional Control of Major Infectious Poultry Diseases

Description:
The poultry industry is the major source of animal protein for the population of the region.
Poultry diseases represent a permanent threat to the poultry production with a public health impact.
Poultry diseases create great economic losses.
 
Objective:
To reduce economic losses by improving poultry disease control measures
 
Scope:
National activities are ongoing. However, regional collaboration and cooperation are necessary and must be encouraged.
 
Status:
Poultry diseases have been dealt with on a national basis only. New virulent pathogens have emerged and threaten the poultry industry in the region, adversely affecting the cost benefit ratio.
 
Tasks:
Epidemiological investigation and applied research (disease dynamics).
Improved quality control of all poultry vaccines.
Improved poultry health schemes.
